Kinect, originally known by the code name Project Natal1 is a device intended for the video game console Xbox 360 for controlling video games without using a joystick.
On January 5, 2011, two months after its release, Microsoft announced that it sold 8 million Kinect4, including one million in just 10 days5. On March 11, 2011, Kinect enters Guinness Book of Records as the "high-tech accessories as sold in a short period of time" with 10 million units sold, an average of 133,333 official Kinect sold every day around the world.
Presentation of concept
This is a camera using interaction techniques developed by PrimeSense, long named by the code name of the project, "Project Natal", it was made official just prior to E3 as the Kinect. It is based on an input device connected to the Xbox 360 console that allows you to interact by voice command (not available at launch in France), recognition of movement and image.
We can play games specially developed for the project, so no controller or device other than his own body. The motion detection device was not already in the Sony EyeToy. This technology will be for the general public with an experience close to the Wii6 party games. The technique was announced at the show at E3 2009. It is sold with Kinect Adventures, for a price of about 150 euros7. In addition, two packs with Kinect, Kinect Adventures XBox360 and S are available: a package including Xbox 360 4GB Kinect for 299 euros, and another pack Xbox 360 250 GB to 349 euros8.
October 21, 2010, Microsoft unveiled the first official advertising of its new device, showing how the firm is the general public9. The computer giant has confirmed to spend more than $ 500 million in marketing to ensure maximum reach of the population. Adding the 500 million launch of Windows Phone 7 (WP7), the company will pay well over 1 billion only for communication, and this in two months. The sales target is 5 million units by the end of the year.10. Features 11
